One year ago, GS1 Spain and the Federación Española de Empresas de Tecnología Sanitaria (FENIN) signed an agreement to collaborate to advance GS1 Standards in healthcare.

FENIN has now approved a position paper promoting the use of best practices to efficiently manage the healthcare supply chain. The paper recommends FENIN member to use the GS1 System of Standards.

FENIN is a multi-sector federation that groups manufacturing, import and distribution companies and associations of healthcare technologies and products, all supplying healthcare institutions in Spain.

FENIN’s membership includes over 520 national and international large, medium and small suppliers of products for hospital and laboratory use, including prostheses, medical devices and accessories, diagnostic, monitoring, therapy and hospital equipment of the most varied nature. The association has various groups according to sector and product type, which allows assessing of each sector’s specific challenges, and taking joint action and measures to address these challenges.

This position paper now promotes the use of the GS1 System of Standards for product identification and electronic data interchange in the healthcare supply chain. The use of GS1 Standards will enable improvements to various processes, including traceability.
