GS1 Healthcare Japan off to a strong start
The first general assembly of GS1 Healthcare Japan was held on 28 May 2009. Proving the interest and involvement of the Japanese healthcare industry were the 100 attendees representing the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, healthcare companies, hospitals, associations and solution providers.
As of December 2009, GS1 Healthcare Japan counted:
- Regular member (Healthcare companies) – 41
- Individual members (Doctors, professors, etc.) – 13
- Association members (Industry associations) – 13
- Supporting members (Solution providers) – 19
On November 24, 2009, three working groups (WGs) were launched:
- AIDC WG, whose 39 members have the mission to investigate standardised barcode solutions for drugs and medical devices supply chain from manufacturers, wholesalers to hospitals
- RFID WG, whose 30 members have the mission to explore a model of RFID applications for healthcare logistics and hospital management
- International WG, whose 26 members are focused on collecting and sharing the information concerning international standardisation activities in the healthcare sector
A 15-person Healthcare Survey Mission visited Europe and United States in late August, where they were received by the UK NHS, the US FDA, 5 hospitals, 1 GPO and GS1 US.
Members also participated in the Global GS1 Healthcare Conference in Hong Kong and paid a formal visit to Kanto Medical Center NTT EC Hospital.
GS1 Healthcare Japan Leadership
Professor Sigekoto Kaihara, Dean of the International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School, was named Chairperson of GS1 Healthcare Japan.
Vice-Chairs are Dr. Chikayuki Ochiai, (Chief Executive of Kanto Medical Center NTT EC); Mr. Takaaki Matsutani, (Vice-Chairperson of The Federation of Japan Pharmaceutical Wholesalers Association) and Mr. Kenichi Matsumoto (Chief Executive of Sakura Global Holding Co., Ltd.).
